With employee engagement coming to the forefront of HR priorities as we move further into 2018 and beyond, it’s important that we also prioritise employee feedback in order to better understand what is driving engagement – and what is harming it.

We believe the best employee engagement survey questions focus on improvement, rather than simply revealing negatives with little to no outcome. Below we’ve outlined 20 template questions for you to ask your employees in your own surveys, to get the best results and drive change in the future. Your questions should have a variety of different question-types – for example ratings on a scale (say 1 to 10), providing in-depth comments, and Yes/No answers. This helps to engage employees with the survey and make it more interactive for them to fill out.

  1. How challenged do you feel at work?

1 -------------- 10

 2. How would you rate your work/life balance?

1 -------------- 10

3. Do you believe you are being rewarded for your efforts within this organisation?

1 – Strongly Agree 2 – Agree 3 – Neutral 4 – Disagree 5 – Strongly Disagree

(This could be followed up with a second optional question: If you disagree, what are the reasons?)

4. Would you recommend this organisation as a great place to work?

1 – Strongly Agree 2 – Agree 3 – Neutral 4 – Disagree 5 – Strongly Disagree

   5. Do you see yourself working at this company in two years’ time?

Yes/No

    6. Do you feel that managers are doing all they can to motivate employees?

     9. Do you feel that you understand & can connect on a day-to-day basis with the wider company goals?

     10. Do you have the appropriate amount/quality of information to perform your job successfully?

(If no, what could be done in your opinion to improve this?)
